Maybelline The Rock Nudes Eyeshadow Palette
Hello Guys,
Last week I had posted a sneak peek of this palette on my Instagram. As promised here are the swatches and my thoughts on the Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette which was launched as part of Maybelline’s Spring 2016 collection. As is the case with most of the drugstore brands coming up with their eyeshadow palettes, this one too has drawn the “inspiration” from Urban Decay’s Naked Palettes. Maybelline has come out with 4 12-pan palettes till date. I have already reviewed the first palette in the range called the Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette here. I skipped the Blushed Nudes & the Smoke palette as Coastal Scents Revealed 1 & 2 were already in my stash. However The Rock Nudes palette had me intrigued because of the edgy dark grunge vibe of the eyeshadow shades.

Ingredients List

What I think
Maybelline The Rock Nudes Eyeshadow palette comes in a compact black rectangular acrylic pan with a partially transparent lid. The lid shuts tight and you can easily carry this in your bag. The packaging mentions all the ingredients. The back of the pan also mentions the grouping for shades available. These are grouped into duos, trios and quads. I feel this is pretty useful and handy for beginners. It comes with a double ended shadow applicator.
The palette has 12 eyeshadows with same texture distribution as in the Nudes palette – 5 Matte shades & 7 Shimmer/Frost shades. Considering the top row numbered as 1 – 6 and bottom row numbered as 7 – 12, shades 4, 8, 9, 11 and 12 are mattes. The matte shades are chalky and have dry texture all around. They are not adequately pigmented. Even the darker mattes are bad on pigmentation. They don’t blend well nor do they adhere to the lids. Even after packing color multiple times, you are left with a washed out eyelids. The Shimmery shades 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 don’t fare well either in pigmentation or texture. The shimmer in these shadows are chunky and gritty and on top of that there is a lot of fallout. I had big hopes for the silvery rose (shade 3), indigo blue (shade 5), shimmery grayish black (shade 6) and the muted gold (shade 10) but they turned out to be really disappointing. Only redeeming shades in this palette are the shimmery pale white and shimmery flesh toned shades 1 & 7 which could work as a good brow bone highlight. I tested all these shades without a primer but with concealer on the lid which acts as an alternative base. Using Mac Fix + might bring out the color on the shimmery shades but fallout and gritty texture is a big fail. This palette is going to be relegated to the back of my makeup drawer. A big miss from Maybelline. I had so much hope for this one :/
