What I think

The Body Shop Smoky Poppy shower gel comes in an almost opaque black plastic bottle with a flip open cap. By almost opaque I mean you can easily see the product inside if you hold the bottle against light. The cap is adequately tight to prevent accidental spillage. Overall the packaging is quite efficient. The consistency of the shower gel is neither too thick nor too runny. The formula is not SLS free. So suffice to say, with a loofah you could create a good amount of foam/lather. However unlike other ranges I have used in the past, the lathering aspect is sub par. I mean the lather formed by 2 squeezes of Smoky Poppy equates to one squeeze of Strawberry or Honey or the Satsuma shower gel.  Smoky poppy smells truly potent & exotic. It has a musky vibe to it – absolutely sexy!! Personally I love the fragrance but wished it lasted longer. You can enjoy the deep musky notes as long as the product is being lathered. Once you wash off, the fragrance disappears which is such a bummer. I was quite excited when this range was launched and picked up the body butter and shower gel. The shower gel is dark bottle green almost black in color.  Not quite aesthetic to the eye per se but it is definitely a big change from the usual color range of TBS’s bath range.
I love TBS products and I had high expectations from the Smoky Poppy range but the shower gel did not endear me much. I am head over heels about the fragrance but would have really loved if at least it lingered for a while. If not on the skin then at least in the shower Gah! It cleanses the skin really well and imparts softness. It does not make the skin dry (I have normal to dry skin on my body).  I wish the scent lingered for a while. All said I do find myself reaching for this shower gel on those days I feel like having a la Spa experience albeit for a short time.

Pros

  • Breathtaking fragrance
  • Non-drying formula
  • Cleanses skin well
  • Adds softness
  • Small amount of product suffices

Cons

  • Fragrance doesn’t linger
  • Doesn’t lather as well as other TBS shower gels
  • Limited edition

Recommendation

Being a limited edition range, this is out of the TBS stores here in US. Personally I won’t repurchase the shower gel if at all they bring it back since the USP of this range is its fragrance and it slacks on that aspect.
