Hi Guys,
Today I am reviewing a fairly new skin care/makeup product I have been trying out. It is the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water. I think most of you would have heard about the micellar water cleansers that have taken over the skincare/beauty market last year I think? I am relatively late in getting myself acquainted with this however better late than never right. For those of you who don’t have any idea about micellar water, here is some background – Micellar water contains micelles – that are electrically charged nano sized fatty particles that have the tendency to mix well with oil and absorb oil. This property is what Micellar Technology is all about. Micellar water cleans the skin by pulling the oils from the surface of the skin leaving you squeaky clean. Some Micellar waters are formulated with mild cleansing agents that work in breaking down makeup and enabling the micelles to cleanse the skin really well.

What I think
Simple Micellar Cleansing Water comes in a travel friendly plastic transparent bottle with a flip open cap. The cap secures tightly preventing any leakage. This cleanser as it’s named has the consistency of water. It is a gentle fluid cleanser that works well as a light-makeup remover. The good part is you just need to use a soaked cotton pad to wipe your face clean off makeup without an additional step of rinsing. Isn’t this the answer to the inner lazy girl in all of us? It is fragrance free which is definitely a plus. This cleanser water is formulated with a potent skin loving ingredient – Niacinamide also known as Vitamin B3, which is a cell communicating ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin like improving skin’s elasticity, hyper pigmentation, tone and texture.
Simple Micellar Cleansing Water is not adept at removing any waterproof or long-wearing makeup instantly. Or rather it takes several rounds of multiple soaked cotton pad to get rid of heavy makeup. This result in excess use of the product and you end up running out of it sooner. So it is better to stick with your regular oil based cleanser, balm or makeup remover to thoroughly get rid of waterproof makeup without over exerting facial skin. If you are into very light makeup then this is an effective cleanser in both makeup removal as well as the fact it will last you longer.
Because of its inherent characteristic to pull out oil from the skin, I think this is best suited to those with normal to oily or sensitive skin. Those with dry skin might find your skin to be a little tight and parched post use but it is nothing a good moisturizer can’t fix. I did not use this excessively in the winters since it left my skin quite dry. I do tend to use it sometimes as a final “touch up” cleaning once in the evening. Basically once my oil based cleanser emulsifies with water in breaking down the makeup, as soon as it’s rinsed off, I use one cotton pad soaked with micellar water to make sure if at all any oil residue is left behind, it is completely removed to prevent any clogged pores causing breakouts. I also make use of this to remove traces of any heavy sleeping masks in the mornings.
Overall Simple Micellar Cleansing Water is an affordable cleanser that will suit those who use light makeup and normal, oily or sensitive skin. I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skin. Though it is doesn’t thoroughly cleanse as claimed, it works great as a post cleansing cleanser, if that makes sense.

Pros
- Travel friendly bottle
- Gentle formula – contains no alcohol
- Contains skin benefiting ingredients – Niacinamide
- Fragrance-free
- Inexpensive
Cons
- Not a thorough cleanser in itself
- Doesn’t work well on waterproof and long-wearing makeup
- Might be excessively drying for dry skin types
Recommendation
Those with normal to oily skin and especially those with sensitive skin would love this for its gentle cleansing nature and excess oil purging qualities. But its a definite no go for those with dry skin. However all said, I really like to use it as a final cleansing step in my routine.
